Java Zen:Thinking Out Loud Tuesday, 2025.07.01
No matter how passionately you feel about something, dying for it will not make
you any more right than you were before you died. While martyrdom might inspire
people under certain circumstances, I think that in general the longer you live,
the more you can accomplish. People who believe in their principles so strongly
that they're willing to die for them would do better to channel that same energy
into living.

That's why people who want to live will generally defeat people who want to die.

The Developing Storm

A view of the wind chimes outside the second floor window. The ridge of snow is a drift being created on the lower level roof by the wind. Normally, there would be a clear view down to the driveway below.

This intrepid sparrow has been camped at the bird feeder for the better part of an hour. He is on the down wind side of the feeder and thus protected from the driving snow. Plus, he has easy access to the seed with no apparent competition. In spite of the weather, this little fellow projects a rather cozy image.
